Coffee was cultivated in “Grange Estate” in the year 1820. Coffee plant was brought from Arabia Africa to Yercaud by the then collector Mr. David Cock burn who is also called the “Father of Yercaud” in the year 1820. Jack Fruit, Berry, Orange, Guava and spices like Pepper and Cardamom are the other crops raised in Coffee Estate. Sandalwood, Teak and Silver Oak are abundant.

GRANGE The castle- Like building was built by the then Collector of Salem, Mr, M.D Cockburn between 1820 and 1829 A.D. It is believed to be the summer resort of Robert Clive – The British Big Wig of the East India Company way Back in the late 1800’s.
Madras Presidency in 1842 found this place. David Cockburn, the Scottish collector of Salem district, between 1820 & 1829, was called the ‘Father of Yercaud “ for developing the resources of the Shevaroy Hills and for introducing coffee from Arabia, Apples, Jack Fruit, Berry, Oranges, Guava from South Africa .The attention of planters on the Shevaroys has been confined solely to coffee plantations. The cool climate attracted many tourist and is home away from home!
Today, the Castle –Like Structure and the plantation is a part of the privately-run Grange Resort owned by the Sait Family.
Grange Resort was built in the year 1998 , Imagine spending the night in a Independent Cottage and more than one hundred years old in a traditional coffee farm on a mountain range, enjoying the cool weather, singing of birds and abundant nature.
18 Independent cottages with private bathrooms, with an atmosphere of coffee traditions through years and culture.

Climate
The climate of Yercaud is moderate. Winters are fairly mild, starting in September and ending in December. During winter, the hills are covered in mist. Winters range from 12°C to 25°C, and Summers from 16°C to 30°C. Rainfall is 1500–2000 mm. The coffee bushes blossom in April and offer a spectacular view. The climate is also particularly pleasant.
